"A Wholesale Electricity Market has been established in the South West Interconnected System (SWIS) of Western Australia. This market will facilitate greater competition and encourage private investment in the generation and retail sectors of the electricity industry. The market also includes a mechanism for ensuring that from October 2007 adequate generation and demand side management capacity is available to maintain reliability and security of electricity supply. The ultimate objective of the Wholesale Electricity Market is to minimise the cost of electricity supplied to consumers in the SWIS."

" Our objective is to test the efficiency and reliability of the restructured wholesale power market design implemented in April 2005 by the Midwest Independent System Operator (MISO). To this end, we have developed an open-source computational test-bed. This test-bed models loadserving entities and generators with learning capabilities bidding into a dynamic ISO-managed wholesale power market that operates over an AC transmission grid subject to congestion effects and that incorporates core MISO market design features. To ensure operational validity, we have consulted MISO business practices manuals and conducted interviews with industry participants. A graphical user interface permitting easy import of case data and visualization of output data through tables, charts, and run-time graphical displays is under development to enhance the usefulness of the test-bed for training, research, and teaching purposes

The ISO/RTO Council (IRC) is an industry organization that includes the seven Independent System Operators (ISOs) and Regional ransmission Organizations (RTOs) responsible for delivering two-thirds of the electricity consumed in the United States to two-thirds of its population. The Council has recently completed the enclosed report highlighting the value of independent regional grid operators. This paper explains the core functions and key benefits of ISOs and RTOs. It notes many of the financial benefits of increased reliability and more efficient use of the grid, reduced reserve requirements, and coordinated planning for new generation and transmission resources.
